Frequently Answered Questions

ASBS Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How long does the season last?

A: Generally, the season commences in late April or early May and ends in late June. Each division is a little different based on schedules and make up games due to inclement weather etc.

Q: Is my child able to play at ASBS?

A: Children who are Auburn residents or attend an Auburn school are eligible to play in our league.

Q: Are games cancelled due to rain?

A: The safety of all of our players is carefully considered during all inclement weather. Every effort will be made to provide as much notice as possible in these circumstances.  In the case of lightning, the game must be stopped immediately, and will resume (if at all) no less than 30 minutes after the end of the lightning strikes in the region.

Q: What should I do if I think my child should be in a higher division than his/her age dictate?

A: Please have your child attend the correct evaluation based on their age. The league director and coaches will work to put your child on the team where they can safely play and continue to develop their skills.  Some divisions (like Major and Minor baseball) use a draft system to form teams.  So a player from a younger age group may only be drafted up if available roster spots exist.

Q: How do I volunteer in the snack shack?

A: We are grateful for any volunteers. Our league success is dependent on such individuals. Please contact Kelly Aho at kjaho@icloud.com

Q: Do I have to do fundraising?

A: Yes. Each child registered is responsible for fundraising. Currently, during registration each child pays $30 for a raffle calendar. Calendars are distributed for re-sale. Calendars are distributed early season and raffles happen throughout the season.

Q: Is there a maximum cost per family for registration; I have 4 children?

A: Yes, the maximum regular season cost per family is $140 + $30 fundraising per player

Q: Is financial assistance / scholarships available?

A: Yes, please speak to someone at live registrations or email treasurer@auburnsuburban.com.

Q: What equipment does my child need?

A: Each child should bring their own glove.  Some softball players will require face masks.  Our league will provide all necessary equipment to participate safely.

Q: When are practices and games?

A: Each division is a little different. However, generally plan on a practice and game each week (excluding t-ball). Please contact your child’s coach for the exact schedule.

Q: Where are games played?

A: Most games are played at the ASBS fields located on Garfield Rd. in Auburn. We are lucky to also have an auxiliary complex, Pulsifer Field,  located on 9th St. in New Auburn.  Our fields are further described here: http://auburnsuburban.com/Site/More/Locations

Q: How do I become a coach/manager?

A: We are grateful for any volunteers. Our league success is dependent on such individuals. Please contact our President at president@auburnsuburban.com or our vice president at fmkunas@hotmail.com

Q: What training, certifications and screenings do coaches and manages attend?

A: Each coach/manager is required to have a background check and mandatory training through our charter with Babe Ruth / Cal Ripken. The league also strives to provide additional CPR and/or basic first training.
